The feed back we get on this mix, not only from our customers in the UK and Europe, but also for our US customers is nothing short of phenomenal.

Hilton CushX is a clinically trialled and tested supportive feed supplement for horses and ponies, formulated to maintain a balanced endocrine system whatever their age.

Hilary Self, our Medical Herbalist, was required to undertake clinical studies as part of her BSc degree course in herbal medicine. Hilary took the opportunity to trial a single herb, Vitex Agnus Castus, commonly known as Chaste Tree berry or Monks Pepper seed, on a group of 50 elderly ponies.  In response to the findings of this trial and the in depth knowledge she gained, she then formulated CushX.

Owners have reported excellent results with this mix, especially with older horses and ponies who struggle to shed their coats in spring/summer.

“This will be Foxy’s third tub of your herbs and the results have been amazing. He will be 33yrs old very soon and although he has had Cushings for over three years now he acts more like he did ten years ago….the most noticeable change in him has been physical, he has begun to full out all his hollows and the age-related drop along his back is now much less noticeable….the (coat) colour appears to be returning – people have even commented on the apparent lack of grey hairs in his mane now!” Mrs Eileen Lee

I thought it was about time I let everyone know how brilliant Cush-X (Vitex Plus) has been for my Arab/Welsh mare, Chloe, who started the onset of Cushings some 9 years ago following a debilitating bout of laminitis. It has not been an easy ride (fertilised fields and sharing with sheep) but now at 24, I have had her stabilised and have managed her condition for the last 2 years (since I moved fields) without any problems. She lives out all year round with access to a field shelter and and a purely fibre diet, with Cush-X and Hoof and Health added. Her worm counts are negligible and her immune system is in full working order. She has her teeth checked every 6 months. 3 winters ago she developed a particularly nasty deep seated abscess in a front foot which the vet was not certain would respond to normal antibiotics due to her condition and was worried it would not resolve at all! The Vets were amazed when after only one course of antibiotics the abcess burst, dispersed and healed with no after affects and it has not returned. She was partly confined during that time which did not suit her. Her feet are in amazing condition (her excellent farrier plays a big part) she is 100% sound and her laminae have completely recovered from the continuing low grade laminitis she suffered in the early days. She drinks more than an average horse and has a longer thicker coat most of the time, but it does completely shed in the spring and again in the autumn. She has a summer coat for about 2 months. Her condition means that she is not always able to regulate her own temperature which causes overheating and sweating and some milder winters I have clipped and rugged her which works very well. She rarely feels the cold and last year's low winter temperature suited her really well and I did not need to clip her at all. She has never had any prescribed drugs for her condition and other than the abscess and an accident involving a split lip, plus routine jabs, she has not needed a vet since the treatment for the first laminitis 9 years ago. I have been feeding Cush-X for about 6 years and will continue to do so for the rest of her life. There is no doubt that it has played a vital part in her rehabilitation and continuing stabilised condition. In fact this year has been her best yet! Thank you so much Hilary and Hiltons. Chloe is the first foal I bred and was a wonderful riding horse taking me to international level in endurance. In recent years she has been a fabulous nanny to many youngsters and a wonderful companion. I am very grateful she is still happy and enjoying her retirement. Definitely top marks and 5* for Chush-X.

The drug, Pergolide, that is used for horses and ponies with Cushing's Disease is one of the drugs used for people with Parkinson's disease. Pergolide is a dopaminergic drug, ie it increases the uptake of dopamine by the receptors in the brain.
