Cleavers (Galium aparine)
Most farmers will tell you this plant is a real nuisance and that they battle to eradicate from their crops, so much so that many years ago, when we first contacted UK farmers to see if they would be interested in cultivating it for us, they thought we were mad! As far as our herbalist is concerned it is the best thing since ‘sliced bread'. She collects it throughout the year, giving the horses a big bouquet of fresh cleavers whenever possible.
Rich in Silica, it has a specific affinity for the lymphatic system and is excellent to help support a healthy coat and skin, especially when it is teamed up with its ‘sister herb, Calendula.
